Inspire Green

Before we get into today's blog, make sure you watch the first episode of our Green America Hometown Tour, which is not posted on this blog.  Tell us what you think.

Great job, as always, by Lauren Sheriden on her newsletter, Inspire Green.

We will run a couple of her articles over the next couple of days.  Thanks, Lauren, for being a part of the Renewable Now family.

“Green” versus “Sustainable”

With environmentally friendly practices becoming a positive, and growing trend in our society—the buzz words ―green‖ and ―sustainable‖ are repetitively used interchangeably, yet in fact, they have different meanings. This got brought to my attention during an assignment I had for one of my courses, when the professor posed the question to my group, ―What is the difference between sustainable marketing and green marketing?‖ Well, for those of you who haven‘t considered the difference between these similar terms, here is your answer.

Sustainable refers to an object that is capable of being continued with minimal long-term effects on the environment. Sustainability revolves around the ideas of a product or process being re-used and/or re-grown over and over. Sustainable products reduce the impact on the environment by using responsibly-sourced products, which are completely renewable or sustainably harvested.

Green can be defined through nature, associated with practicing environmentally friendly actions and saving the environment. Green can also be associated with fertility and rebirth for its connections to nature. Products and services are quite often marketed as ―green,‖ but in reality it does not have the disposability of truly ―green.‖ For example, 100% recycled paper towels often create a vision of eco-friendly benefits, yet in no way is the use of paper towels being green, nor sustainable.

The use of sustainable products/services, helps initiate green ways; those products/services that are sustainable must deduce green practices and benefits.
So….
Are Inspire Green Filtered Water Bottles classified as “sustainable” OR “green?
 Green: being that consumers will save money
 Sustainable: being that consumers will also being saving the environment"

We love the "green" side of the business side of green.
